Science

At the Spinney we ensure that our pupils' receive a broad Science curriculum aligned to the National Curriculum. The curriculum encompasses aspects of biology, physics and chemistry alongside scientific enquiry skills.

Our aim is to build our pupil's confidence in science by raising the profile of science in school and facilitating children to adopt a mindset that science is accessible to everyone.

To support the delivery of high quality science lessons, we follow the White Rose Science Curriculum. This includes units of work that focus on sustainability of the world, like global warming and light pollution.

In addition to the national curriculum expectations at The Spinney we offer wide and varied opportunities for pupils throughout their time at the school. These include activities such as: participation in the annual Science Week, visits and visitors, outdoor learning especially using the Wild Woods, holding whole school events such a the Big Investigate and by making cross curricular links with science and other subjects wherever possible.
