Year 5 and 6  -Spring Term

Year 5 will have P.E. on Monday and Tuesday - please come to school in P.E. Kit.

Our Golden Threads are Social injustice, Multi-culturalism and diversity and Climate changeThese Golden Threads will be woven through our curriculum this year and focused on during our class and Year 5/6 Assemblies.

Maths - We will be using White Rose Maths and Classroom Secrets resources in our maths lessons. This term we will be developing our understanding of  multiplication, division and fractions. We will be applying our understanding in each of these areas by solving a range of problems and developing our reasoning skills.

Please encourage your child to read every day and to record it in their red reading record book. Please discuss the book with your child and ask some questions to check their comprehension and understanding of the plot. Reading records will be checked each week to ensure children are reading regularly and that they are reading a range of books.

Spelling lists will be sent out every Friday on Microsoft Teams for the children to practise ready for a spelling test the following Friday.

All of Years 5 and 6 will be using Times Tables Rock Stars online to help them to practise their times tables.

We will also set project homework on Microsoft Teams, at the beginning of each half term to work on throughout the half term. The homework will be clearly detailed in an information sheet which will be sent home at the beginning of term.

Sometimes extra maths or SPAG homework will also be sent home.

Activities outside the classroom

Here is a list of the activities that take the children outside the classroom this term

  • PE will take place outside and inside the hall this term.
  • We will be visiting the Wild Woods on several occasions to support our learning.
  • We are investigating ways in which educational visits can happen under the current climate and will keep you informed of the situation, but we hope you understand that these are very difficult to carry out at the moment.
