The School Council is made up of two representatives from each class from Year 1 to Year 6. The council, coordinated by Mrs Hartley and chaired by the Year 6 councillors, would normally meet once a week. Due to the current situation, however, we are unable to meet together at present. Instead, the councillors for each year group are discussing issues arising in class and feeding back to the Year 6 chairs.
The school council represents the thoughts of their peers and communicates ideas, concerns and topics of interest to the group. Like many young people across the globe, Spinney children care passionately about the health and future of our planet Earth. Over the last two years, in response to this growing clamour, the School Council has instigated many Earth-friendly initiatives. This includes a Plastic Waste Awareness campaign and a special assembly on climate breakdown which culminated in a whole school day of action for Earth and its inhabitants. Both the plastic awareness day and the day of action were attended by the local press. We will continue to work hard to keep these issues in the forefront of all our minds.
