Friends of The Spinney

The Spinney is fortunate to have a wonderful Parents' association - The Friends - which holds many fund-raising and social occasions throughout the year. These are parents of children at the school who are very supportive in many different ways, giving generously of their time, skills and energy. They organise Quiz Nights, Discos, Christmas Fayres and other activities that raise money for the school. Over the years this has enabled the school to enhance its IT, library and playground provision.

It is expected that all Spinney parents at some point in their time in the Spinney Learning Community will volunteer some of their time where this is possible. For more information about how you can make a difference and make the Spinney an even better place, please visit the Friends' page or contact the chair of the Friends via the school office.

The Friends of The Spinney

Welcome to the Friends of the Spinney webpage. We are a group of parents who support the school by organising social events and passing all funds raised to the school for the direct benefit of the children. In the past our funds have paid for a range of resources including books, cameras, musical instruments and garden equipment. This year we are focussing on the purchase of outdoor play equipment.

We meet a couple of times each term to plan activities such as discos, fairs and picnics, and also take part in running the events. It is a great way to get involved in school life and to meet other parents, and it's also a great deal of fun!

Easy Fundraising

Did you know that whenever you buy anything online from your weekly shop to your annual holiday you could be raising a free donation for The Friends of The Spinney? There are nearly 3,000 retailers on board ready to make a donation, including Amazon, John Lewis, Aviva, thetrainline and Sainsbury's. It doesn't cost you a penny extra! It's really simple, all you have to do is:

  1. Join. Head to https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/fospinneyprimary/ and sign up for free.
  2. Shop. Every time you shop online, go to easyfundraising first, pick the retailer you want and start shopping.
  3. Raise. After you've checked out, that retailer will make a donation to your good cause for no extra cost whatsoever! There are no catches or hidden charges and we would be really grateful for your donations.

Thank you for your support.

Uniform Sale

There will be a uniform sale again this year at the Winter Fair. The Friends are looking for any clean, washed items in good condition (no stains or holes please), logoed items such as book bags, fleeces and other standard uniform. Please only donate logoed polo shirts and t-shirts. If you have child-sized coat hangers they would also be gratefully received.

We would appreciate it if you could remove any name labels, and please note that we will not be selling tights, socks or underwear. Items can be handed into the school office. Thank you!

Forthcoming events

Our traditional Winter Fayre takes place on Sunday 2nd December from 2:30 - 5:00pm. Come along and enjoy an afternoon of festive fun and games.  There will be games to play as well as stalls for you to start your Christmas shopping.  You could also meet Santa!

Being a member of The Friends

As a Spinney parent we hope that you already see yourself as a supporter of the school and that you will want to get involved in Friends' activities! All talents are welcome, there are opportunities to help as little or as much as you can. For example, helping out at discos, running stalls at the summer fair (face painting, craft stalls, tug of war).

The Friends of the Spinney have a planning committee. We always welcome new members and value fresh ideas.

If you'd like to find out more, please get in touch with our chair via email. You may also leave your name at the school office at any time and they can pass your details on.
